The Indian Education System At Crossroads

T he inevitable role that education has to play in a society where communalism and religious hatred rule the roost is unquestionable. Mahatma Gandhi said “Through education I mean the overall development of a child” . But the stark reality is that our education system has failed to meet the expectations of our great visionaries. The present education system is not only biased but has also marginalized the youth in many ways. The youth population comprises about 50% of the total Indian population. But the problems faced by the youth have never been prioritized in the Indian political arena. One of the core reasons responsible for this communication gap might be the vast age difference between our voters and representatives. The average age of the Indian population is 29 years whereas the average age of our cabinet members is 63. Though India is said to be a fast developing economy the employment sector has never felt the green. The unemployment rate in India is

When Judiciary Questions Religion

T he cold war waging between two authoritative institutions, the judiciary and religion has been a cause of concern for the world since time immemorial. Religious extremism indoctrinated into the young minds ignited fierce revolts between devotees and the judiciary. With India, being the origin of dominant religions in the world such as Hinduism, Jainism, Sikhism and Buddhism, it has always been a hotspot for growing tensions between the judiciary and religion. A liberal view on the issue states that banning women to enter Sabarimala is a clear case of discrimination against women. Denying them the right to worship on the basis o

#metoo : An Online Judiciary

A  new revolution, ignited by the very long submission to suppression and injustice is conquering both heights and minds rapidly. The #metoo movement is indeed a warning to the male patriarchal society that no voice can be silenced forever. This online judiciary platform gives justice to the victim by tearing away the social masks, ripping off their fame and social status, which indeed is more appropriate than any capital punishment. It all began in 2006, when Tarana Burke, an American social activist used the phrase ‘metoo’ to reveal the sexual abuses she had faced. However it became popular only in 2017 when the American actress Alyssa Milano tweeted to use the hashtag to reveal any sexual harassment faced by women. The hashtag gathered attention in India when Thanushree Dutta accused Nana Patekar of inappropriate behaviour on the sets of a film they were shooting in 2008. From then on the fire has raged vigorously, even overthrowing MJ Akbar from the M.E.A th
